Prepare for Room Selection 2026-2027

On January 21, continuing residential CC/SEAS students received the following message about Room Selection.

January 22, 2026

What is Room Selection?

Room Selection is the annual process during which eligible students declare their intent to live on campus next year and select a room.

You must declare your housing intent if you:

  • Plan to participate in Room Selection
  • Plan to move off-campus, study abroad, or are assigned to a room as an RA, SIC or FSL member, student with a disability accommodation, or RA or DS Rider

If you do not declare your intent, you will lose your guaranteed housing status and will not be eligible to participate in Room Selection.

How Selection Order Works

  • Selection order is determined by a student’s point value and lottery number.
  • Point values are based on your class year:
    • Rising sophomores: 20 points
    • Rising juniors: 30 points
    • Rising seniors: 40 points
  • Within the same point value range (i.e., within each class), lottery numbers are randomly assigned. Your lottery number determines when you select.
  • Rising seniors select first because they have the highest point value and get “first pick” lottery numbers, followed by rising juniors and sophomores.

Group Selection

  • You may select as an individual or in a group.
  • Even-numbered groups have the best chance of selecting a room because they can choose into singles or doubles as long as they fill all beds.
  • Once all odd-numbered suites and corridor singles are gone, odd-numbered groups and individuals cannot select a room and will be automatically added to the Guaranteed Assignment List. Placements are made in the summer.
