Check-In Steps

Step 1: Check-In Online Before You Arrive

This mandatory step updates your CUID with access to your building and room (if you have an electronic lock). You will receive a reminder notification 24 hours before your selected arrival time, at which time this action becomes available in the Housing Portal. 

Plan to complete this step before arriving to campus to prevent move-in delays. It may take 10-20 minutes for your CUID to update. 

Step 2: Arrive at Your Selected Check-In Time

If you have not yet selected a time, please do so as soon as possible in the Housing Portal. We encourage students to arrive on formal Check-In Day, September 4, to take advantage of resources like curbside drop-off and campus-wide bin rental locations. Be aware that if you arrive on September 5 or later, moving bins will only be available at Furnald Hall. 

Arrival Tips:

• East Campus residents should review building-specific arrival instructions.
• It may be more convenient to rent a bin before proceeding to your building. Find the closest bin rental location to your building.
• Streets near your building may have curbside dropoff to facilitate move-in. To access these streets, be prepared to show the Check-In Pass to Public Safety officers. The Check-In Pass is located in the sidebar of the Housing Portal.
• Make a parking plan if arriving by car.
• If you experience delays and arrive after your Check-In time, please proceed with the process as outlined in this message. 

If you are part of an early arrival program, you may receive additional arrival instructions and an updated arrival date.  

Step 3: Pick Up Your Room Key (Select Buildings Only) or Proceed to Your Room

Residents of Woodbridge Hall or Floors 6-8 & 11-12 of 600 W. 113th:

Follow these instructions for picking up your key:

• On September 4:
  • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Schapiro Hall
  • After 4 p.m. at Furnald Hall
• On September 5 and beyond:
  • At Furnald Hall

Residents of All Other Buildings

Your CUID will function as your room key. You may proceed directly to your room. 

Broadway & Hogan Residents

To facilitate move-in, the W. 114 street-level entrance to Broadway/Hogan will be open on:

• September 4: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• September 5: 7 a.m. to 11p.m.
• September 6: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• September 7: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After September 7, students should submit a special access request and call the Housing Hospitality Desk at 212-854-2779. Access requests through this entrance are not guaranteed. 

Step 4: Proceed to Your Room

Before you unpack your belongings, log in to the Housing Portal to take our brief Check-In survey and to complete the Room Condition Report (RCR). The RCR is mandatory. It records the condition of your room at move-in and will serve as the basis for damages during occupancy. Failure to complete the RCR may result in damage charges at Check-Out.

Tip: Avoid timeout errors by completing the RCR in 10 minutes or less.

Arrival Reminders & More Resources

• Bring your CUID to Check-In.
• Pack mindfully: space in your room is limited because the room is furnished. All personal items will need to be removed when you check out at the end of the academic year.
  • Use our What to Bring page as a packing guide.
• Recommended: Obtain property insurance to protect your belongings while in residence, as the University is not responsible for personal property. You may choose any insurance provider.
• Make a parking plan if arriving by car. Street parking may not be available as select streets are closed to facilitate curbside drop-off.
• Register parents and family as guests if they require access to campus.
• Review Check-In requirements to make sure you are prepared for arrival.
