Policy
The State of New York, Columbia University, and all national fraternities and sororities on campus have adopted anti-hazing legislation or policies. The Center for Student Success and Intervention website has additional information regarding Columbia's policy towards hazing and how to report a hazing incident.
Hazing is any reckless or intentional act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a group or organization. This may include the destruction or removal of public or private property, or any act that a reasonable person would find demeaning, uncomfortable, embarrassing, humiliating, or ridiculing. The express or implied consent of participants will not be an excuse. Apathy or acquiescence in the presence of hazing are not neutral acts; they will also be considered violations of this policy.
