Looking Ahead: Room Selection AY 2026-2027

As we approach the end of fall, it’s time to look ahead to Room Selection.  We know the end of the year is busy, so please be aware no action is currently required. 

Based on student feedback, we’re sending this intro now so you can familiarize yourself with the process and think about your plan for next year.  

What is Room Selection? Senior Lalaine (CC 2026) Explains the Process 

Room Selection is the annual process during which eligible students declare their intent to live on campus next year and select a room.  

All students must declare their housing intent for next year, whether they plan to live on campus, move off campus, study abroad, or take a leave. 

In this 15-minute intro, current CC Senior Lalaine explains the process step-by-step and connects you to resources. Watching this video is like having a class buddy share their detailed study guide for a final.

What You Can Do Now 

Although no action is currently required, you may want to: 

• Add all the Room Selection dates to your calendar. Click on the “Add to Calendar” button beneath each web event to add it directly to your Google Calendar.
• Consider special housing options like Special Interest Communities (SICs). They have a separate application process that typically takes place in late fall. 
• Register for a virtual Room Selection Info Session. 
  • Room Selection for Rising Sophomores: February 6 at 3 p.m.
  • Group Selection & Strategy: February 20 at 3 p.m.
• Think about who you want to live with. While it’s fun to live with your friends, it's best to choose a roommate whose living preferences align with your own. Consider cleaning, hygiene and sleep habits, as well as building and room preferences. 
• Follow Columbia Housing on Instagram. We post FAQs, advice from upperclass students, deadline reminders, and more.

In January, we’ll begin our Room Selection email series. We send regular messages that contain reminders of required actions and links to helpful resources.
