Welcome to Columbia Housing. We can’t wait to meet you! Please follow the steps outlined below to prepare for your arrival in August.

Step 1: View Your Room Assignment in the Housing Portal

The Columbia Housing Portal is your one-stop location for important information as a residential Columbia student. Throughout your time living on campus, you will visit the Housing Portal to submit applications, complete requirements, and more.

Find your arrival date, room assignment and roommate information for Academic Year 2026-2027:

  1. Click "Login" in the top left-hand corner of the Portal homepage.
    1. Select "Login with Columbia ID number" from the drop-down menu.
    2. Enter your Columbia ID number. Your Columbia ID number begins with C and is 9 digits. Your password is your date of birth in the format MMDDYYY (i.e., 04242004).
  2. Click on the “Move-In Information” tab in the menu.

Step 2: Select a Check-In Time and Complete Other To-Dos

  1. Required: Select your preferred arrival time on Check-In Day, Tuesday, September 1. Check-In locations will be shared in early August but are typically at or close to your residence hall.
    1. Go to the “Move-In Information” page of the Housing Portal and select a time between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on September 1.
    2. If you arrive after 12:30 p.m., you may miss new student programming hosted by your school. After-hours Check-In will be conducted at the Housing Hospitality Desk in Furnald Hall.
  2. Required: Sign your Occupancy Agreement (OA) in the Housing Portal by August 1. This document can be found in your application and outlines the terms and conditions of living in Columbia Housing. Failure to sign the OA may jeopardize your housing assignment.
  3. Recommended: Obtain property insurance to protect your belongings while in residence, as the University is not responsible for personal property. You may choose any insurance provider.

 

Step 3: Plan What You’ll Bring to Campus 

Watch our video for recommendations on what you should and should not bring to campus. Remember, your room is furnished and space is limited.  

Step 4: Register for Upcoming Webinars & Review Check-In Resources and Timeline
