Elevator Upgrade in Carman Hall

An elevator modernization project is underway across campus. This includes the three (3) elevators in Carman Hall. 

Work will be conducted one elevator at a time, so residents will maintain access to at least two (2) elevators throughout the semester. 

Work is scheduled to begin on the first elevator in Carman Hall on Monday, October 28.  

Anticipated completion is February 18, 2025. During this time, one main elevator as well as the freight elevator will also be available for residents to use.  

Why are the elevators being upgraded? 

The work is required to comply with new regulations from the NYC Department of Buildings. These are mandatory upgrades and will also incorporate the installation of a modernized interior.  

Teams in Facilities and Operations are working closely with Housing to develop the best possible schedule with the least amount of impact to residents. 

The work will take place 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and extended hours during academic breaks to expedite work and minimize the inconvenience. Work that creates noise will not begin until 9 a.m.
