Theft Prevention

Introduction

Columbia Housing works with Public Safety to establish a safe residential community.

Policy

Taking or possessing the property of the University or another person without permission is prohibited. Room/suite doors should not be propped open or left unlocked while unattended. Personal property should not be left unattended in common areas in the residence halls. Unattended property is not the responsibility of Columbia Housing or Residential Life. The University strongly recommends that students living on campus purchase property (renters) insurance on their own.

Procedure

If you believe your property is taken without your permission:

  1. Report the incident to Public Safety.
  2. Contact Residential Life by calling the RA on-duty or by email.
