Storage

There is no storage space available on campus. However, New York City has many storage providers who provide fee-based storage, packing, and/or shipping services.

Choosing a Storage Vendor

Though storage vendors near the University may provide a discount to our students, Columbia Housing has no affiliation with any of these companies. Students have the right and ability to select the vendor of their choice and are responsible for negotiating rates, dates, and details with their selected vendor. Students should ask for proof of insurance and verify that coverage meets their and the University requirements. The University is not responsible for verifying insurance coverage, nor any loss, damage, or injury resulting from the services provided by a moving or storage company.

Students should request a Certificate of Insurance (COI) from their vendor.

It is strongly recommended that vendors coming onto campus maintain a minimum of the following:

  • Commercial General Liability: $2,000,000
  • Auto Liability: (combined single limit): $1,000,000 ($2,000,000 if vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Weight over 19,501 lbs)
  • Workers Compensation: $500,000 accident /$500,000 disease /$1,000,000 policy aggregate
  • Umbrella: $1,000,000

If Your Vendor Needs Access to Your Room

Columbia Housing must be informed by submitting the vendor access request form in advance of a storage provider arriving to campus to help a resident pack or move their belongings. Residents using vendors must be present while the vendor is accessing the residence hall and room.
