Columbia Housing Donates Nearly 400 Pieces of Furniture to Church World Service and Habitat for Humanity

June 28, 2024

As renovations began in Hogan and River Halls this summer, Columbia Housing faced the challenge of finding a new home for nearly 400 pieces of used furniture. Demonstrating a commitment to community support and environmental sustainability, Housing successfully donated these items to Church World Service Jersey City and Habitat for Humanity.

Church World Service Jersey City, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing homes for refugee and immigrant communities, received 117 pieces of furniture, including couches, armchairs, and dining tables and chairs. Habitat for Humanity received loveseats, dining tables and chairs, and coffee tables.

This initiative not only supports local organizations but also aligns with Columbia Housing's mission to reduce waste and promote sustainability by repurposing furniture that might otherwise have ended up in landfills.

This project is part of Columbia Housing’s ongoing work to refresh the residence halls and ensure a comfortable living experience for residential students.
