Noise and Quiet Hours

Introduction

All residents have the right to read, study, and sleep without disruption from undue noise or interference. Residents should be considerate of their noise levels and be prepared to reduce sounds that are intrusive or impactful to community members. Any noise that can be heard outside of a room or suite is considered intrusive. In order to maintain an appropriate study atmosphere, the use of amplified sound instruments or equipment is not permitted in the residence halls.

Policy

Quiet hours are in place from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Residents must abide by the 24-quiet hour policy during University designated reading/study and examination periods.

Procedure for Addressing Excess Noise

If a roommate/suitemate or neighbor refuses to cooperate with a request to lower volume levels, a student is encouraged to contact the RA of their floor or the RA on-duty.
