Refrigerators

Introduction

Students may bring their own mini-fridge, purchase one at the EcoReps' Green Sale, or rent a microwave-refrigerator combo, provided it meets the University requirements outlined below.

Fridge Policy

Students may not bring a full-size refrigerator into their residence hall.

Mini-fridges used in individual rooms must not exceed 2.5 cubic feet in volume. Mini-fridges and microfridges must be plugged directly into wall outlets and cannot be plugged into power strips/extension cords of any kind. Student-purchased mini-fridges (e.g., those not provided within a suite or a residence hall kitchen) cannot be kept in common areas and must be kept in the student's room.

Microwaves

Microwaves are not permitted per our prohibited items policy. If you would like to have a combination microwave and refrigerator, you may rent a MicroFridge which meets University standards. For more information, visit MicroFridge or call 800-525-7307. Orders received before August 1 will likely be delivered prior to the start of the academic year.

While Columbia has no affiliation with MicroFridge, we can facilitate the delivery prior to your campus arrival.
