Reminders for Thanksgiving Break
If you will be leaving campus for Thanksgiving break, please complete these simple steps to keep your residence hall and room safe.
- Close and lock all windows
- Turn off lights
- Remove all perishables from refrigerator
- Dispose of all garbage and recycling in your room
- Remove flammable items from radiators/heating units
- Turn off and unplug non-essential appliances
- Take a minute to sort unwanted clothing and shoes to donate during Clean and Go Green on November 21 and 22.
Looking Ahead: Winter Break Housing
Winter break runs from Friday, December 21, 2024, through Monday, January 20, 2025. Spring semester begins Tuesday, January 21.
Students who plan to continue living on-campus through the end of spring semester may remain in Columbia Housing over break.
Students who will not complete a full spring semester on campus because they are graduating in February, studying abroad, or taking a leave of absence are not eligible for winter break housing and must:
- Cancel their Spring Semester housing by November 25 to avoid a cancellation fee; and
- Check out within 24 hours of their last exam, or by 12 p.m. noon on December 21, 2024, whichever is sooner.

Spring Semester: If You Intend to Request a Room Swap
Students who wish to complete a room swap must initiate the process by November 25. Requests received after November 25 will need to be resubmitted at the start of spring semester. Room availability may be limited at that point. Learn more about room swaps.
