Introduction
Columbia University is committed to providing a learning, working, and living environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and related forms of prohibited conduct. The University encourages everyone to become familiar with the types of behaviors that constitute misconduct and with the University’s policies and procedures which are listed below.
Any member of the Columbia community who believes that they have experienced discrimination, harassment or any other form of prohibited conduct is encouraged to report the incident to the Office of Institutional Equity and/or Center for Student Success and Intervention. Upon receiving the report, these offices are charged with responding promptly and thoroughly in accordance with University policies. Columbia also offers confidential resources to community members who believe they have been subjected to any form of discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking.t. A list of these resources is provided below.
Complaints against students for sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and related forms of prohibited conduct are processed in accordance with Title IX and Related Misconduct Policy and Procedures for Students (“Policy”). The Policy addresses Title IX Sexual Harassment (an umbrella term that includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking) as required by federal Title IX regulations. The Policy also addresses additional forms of related misconduct (including sexual exploitation and retaliation) in order to create and support a safe and non-discriminatory educational environment in a manner that is consistent with federal, state, and local law. The Policy applies when the Respondent is a Columbia University or Teachers College student. Students who attend Barnard College are subject to Barnard Colleges processes and policies. Complaints against students for other types of discrimination and harassment are processed in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policies and Procedures for Students. Complaints against employees and third parties for discrimination and harassment are processed in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment Policies and Procedures for Faculty and Staff. These policies and procedures apply to allegations of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, and intimate partner violence), and retaliation. Please note that this policy also applies to complaints about alleged violations of the University’s Romantic and Sexual Relationship Policies. Sexual Violence Response
Columbia Health Sexual Violence Response (SVR) provides confidential trauma-informed support and prevention programs focused on ending gender and power-based violence. Services include prevention-focused training and education programs, crisis counseling/intervention, advocacy, connection to resources, online orders of protection, and accompaniment for survivors and co-survivors of violence. Sexual Violence Response is available telephonically, virtually, and in-person for all Columbia University community members.

Additionally, Housing staff and your Resident Advisor are also available should a student need help but they are required to report disclosed sexual assaults or other related incidents.
