Health and Safety Inspections

Policy

Residential Life, Columbia Housing, and Fire Safety conduct annual Health and Safety Inspections. During inspections, University staff enter student spaces to ensure that all fire safety equipment is in place and in functioning order, students are maintaining an appropriate level of self-care, and that there are no prohibited items. If prohibited items are on the premises, residents will be given 48 hours to remove them. Certain items may be disposed of immediately.

Procedure

Residents will receive email notification from Columbia Housing 48 hours prior to their building’s inspection date and do not need to be present. Inspection times cannot be rescheduled. Residents may expect follow-up from Residential Life and/or the Center for Student Success and Intervention if prohibited items, fire safety violations, or any other policy violations are discovered.

To prepare your space and expedite the inspection process, please clear personal items off the floor and window area and fully raise your blinds prior to the inspection appointment.
