This important system upgrade transitions our door locks online so that they can be remotely accessed and programmed. It is one of several ongoing projects to modernize the Columbia Housing portfolio and improve the residential student experience. Although we are at 54% project completion, we have already observed several benefits for both students and staff:
- Improved efficiency and delivery of services: The remote capabilities of the new locks allow the Housing team to program CUID access updates without the physical card, enabling support staff to bypass the Hartley Desk and proceed directly to students in need.
- Streamlined Check-In Process: Returning upperclass students in upgraded buildings can now complete Check-In online through the Housing Portal, which updates their CUID with access to their door lock and removes the need for cross-campus Check-In stations. This expedites the Check-In process for students and reduces the need for students to wait for administrative support.
- Perform proactive maintenance to minimize disruptions to residents: Door lock batteries can be remotely monitored to proactively schedule maintenance so that students experience fewer lock-outs due to battery issues.
We look forward to seeing how our new and improved locks continue to benefit the residential student community.
