Combined Plan Lottery Information

Eligible Combined Plan students must register for the Combined Plan lottery to determine whether they will be invited to participate in general Room Selection.

As communicated during the admissions process, housing is not guaranteed for Combined Plan (CP) students beyond the first program year. A lottery will be conducted to determine which CP students will be able to participate in Room Selection and live on campus for AY 22-23. CP students are only eligible to participate in the lottery if they lived in Columbia Housing for AY 21-22.

CP students must participate in the Combined Plan lottery in order to qualify for Room Selection. Failure to participate in the Combined Plan lottery, you will not be able to participate in Room Selection. 

Submit a Combined Plan Lottery Application to Participate

CP students must complete the Combined Plan Lottery Application between 10:00 am Wednesday, January 19 and 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 21.  Submit the application via the Housing website.

How the Lottery Works

  • CP students can apply as individuals or as a group of 2 to 10 students. Please note that only one application is permitted per individual or group. 
  • Students that enter the lottery as an individual will receive one lottery number.   
  • Groups will receive one lottery number. If your group is selected, all members of your group will be offered housing. However, there is a possibility that the last group will need to be broken up if there are not as many spots remaining as there are members in the group.  
    • For example, if there were 72 of 74 spots assigned and a group of five were drawn next, the group would have the opportunity to decide if they preferred to stay together off-campus and/or on the non-guaranteed waitlist, or to divide up as individuals for a secondary lottery.
  • The group with which you enter the Combined Plan lottery is not binding. If you are selected to participate in general Room Selection, you can select housing with another group or participate as an individual.   
  • The Combined Plan lottery selections will be made on Tuesday, January 25 at 12:00 p.m. via a random lottery selection generator. You will be notified with the results by end of day on January 25. 

Students Selected in the Lottery   

Students who are selected in the lottery will be able to participate in Room Selection this spring and will receive further instructions via email.   

Students Not Selected in the Lottery  

Students who are not selected to participate in Room Selection have two options:

  1. They  may apply for housing as a Returning Non-Guaranteed student beginning Monday, May 2, 2022. Non-guaranteed students may be assigned as space becomes available by late August, but housing is not guaranteed.   
  2. They may move off-campus. One resource to assist in locating off-campus housing is Columbia Residential’s Off-Campus Housing Marketplace.
