Check-In Information Sent to First-Year Students on August 10

On August 10, first-year students received an email from Columbia Housing with important pre-arrival, bag drop, and Check-In day reminders. Continue reading for a summary of the email.

Prepare to Receive Your Lion Pass 

The Lion Pass is a document that lists your arrival time, building and room number. It will be sent to you via email by August 23. You will need to present a printed copy of your Lion Pass upon arrival. Please print the pass in advance of your arrival to avoid delays.  

Important Pre-Arrival Reminders 

  • Submit a photo for your student ID. Non-compliant students may not receive an ID at check-in and will not be able to access their room.   

  • Review our list of what to bring and what not to bring.  

  • Packages received at the Student Mail Center by August 15 will be delivered to your room. Format your mailing address according to the Student Mail Center instructions

  • The Student Mail Center will be closed on August 27 and August 28. Important items should be brought with you or shipped in advance of the package pre-delivery deadline. 

  • Review the Guide to Living to learn about policies and procedures that apply to residential student life. 

Bag Drop Day Tips 

A smooth bag drop experience is all about preparation. 

  • Review the list of local parking options. Parking in the unload zones is not permitted.  

  • Plan to move all your belongings on Saturday. You will not have access to the elevators on Sunday until after Convocation. 

  • Be prepared to take the stairs. There is limited access to elevators during bag drop day. 

  • Complete your move-in by 4:00 p.m. 

Check-In Day Tips 

You’ll need to return on Sunday, August 28 to complete formal Check-In. 

  • On Sunday, complete Check-In at your assigned station as outlined in What to Expect When You Check-In

  • Do not use the unload zones on Sunday. They are reserved for students who are moving their belongings into their room.  

  • You will not have access to the elevators. Be prepared to take the stairs.  If you bring additional items, you may need to carry them.

  • Be prepared to take the stairs. There is limited elevator access during Check-In because elevators will be used primarily to transport belongings.
